It's the FINAL straw

It takes 200 years for a single plastic straw to decompose. Not cool.

As one of South Africa’s most loved brands, we know that we need to contribute to the environment in which we do business and use our scale to drive real impact.

KFC globally has committed to eliminate non-recoverable or non-reusable plastic-based packaging by 2025 and this goal supports our long – term plan to implement more sustainable packaging options in all our restaurants.

Because of this commitment, locally we have started on this journey and will be changing out our plastic straws.

From 1 July 2019, we will have phased out all plastic straws to paper straws in our over 900 restaurants in South Africa, helping South Africa get rid of 60 million plastic straws a year. But this moment in our history is just the start.  We’re far from done.

As a global brand that operates more than 22,000 restaurants in over 135 countries, KFC is in a position to have a real impact on how the industry approaches waste and packaging management overall.

As a next step on this mission towards more sustainable packaging, we are identifying sustainable packaging alternatives for a number of plastic items in our restaurants and will keep you updated as we go.  It starts with a straw.
